NEW! Prospecting Community Network! We have great group started with several already blogging and getting involved. You will be able to view the main page when you pull the site up to decide if it is a place you would like to hang out at.

SOOOO nice to have sunshine again! While we will have rain this weekend, it at least will not be solid for most of us. Spring rains are welcome here and in the high country, as rain will bring snow down faster and start our gold season sooner.

You will find a new widget on the home page of www.hookedongold.com with twitter updates. It has two purposes….1 to get a posting every day to the home page so it will update in the search engines, and 2 so you can follow. Also, you will find the Calendar of Events page is updated for the summer with dates I know. I’m sure I missed a bit, but I’ll get back to it this next week as I try to get everything finalized and put to rest for the summer. Links to the panning tips page still need work.

A couple of interesting articles came up this past week I thought you might like to see. The first is about wind power and the National Parks Service’s concerns over the amount of water and land needed to support the use of solar panels in the southwest where most of the sunny days are located. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2009/04/18/national/a005500D28.DTL The other was a report about a ship from South America with gold aboard that was sunk last January. http://en.mercopress.com/2009/04/22/mystery-of-sunken-gold-cargo-in-south-atlantic-remains-locked

Summer is approaching, and we will be off prospecting. May 1st will be the last regular Gazette until Fall. I have decided that regular blogs every few days will be better to do than having the spectre of a deadline over me every Friday. I will also continue to twitter, but probably not as much. Can’t twitter and blog when you are finding gold! LOL! Larry’s last work day will be next Thursday. After that we have several weekend things planned as well as Let’s Go Gold Panning Days. Then we will be setting up summer camp around the 15th of May, and settled in by the end of May. Lots of trips are being planned with various people, so we plan to have a busy summer finding gold. Hope you will be finding the yellow stuff, too. Remember to be respectful of private property and try not to p**s anybody off. There are reports that California prospectors are coming up against robbers, so you might want to try to keep to groups.

Looking forward to reporting to you of our adventures and posting pictures of gold for you to drool over.

It is snowing here in Denver today and through tomorrow. You’d have to be a hermit not to have heard on the news that we will get around 20 inches of spring snow today into tomorrow. Yes, we are dry, and it will be much needed moisture for the Front Range, but It IS April, and we’d rather the weather be good enough by now to get some prospecting in. Can’t even take the metal detectors out. 70’s this next week should break this pattern for the rest of the spring…..we hope.

I had a question this past week about the swedish pan. (You can find an example on Amazon) I have not used it, but if there is anyone one out there that has, leave a comment on it at the end of this post. I would love to hear what you have to say about it. The newer system of delivering the DIY bucket classifier instructions is working better. Much less spam coming in, too. This is a good thing.

Metals have all been down this week as the dollar stays up. How long this will last, no one can tell for sure, but many analysts are suggesting you have some of your investments in gold stocks and the actual metals, too. Some of them are saying you should have a lot. Silver is also, once again, being touted as the metal of choice as it is expected to jump up even higher than gold by percentage.

Gosh, I wish I had prospecting news to tell you. I mean, news about actual prospecting, but it has just been too nasty out to do much. We are starting to get testy around here without being able to get gold pans or metal detectors or anything out to find some gold. Days are filled with twitter information, the new prospecting community network, blogs and staring longingly out the window at snow and rain, and wishing we were away somewhere warm, sunny, and able to find gold. Alas, we did not even go to Arizona this year, saving all our time and money for the day Larry retires so we have what we will need until the payments kick in. (5 working days left! :>) If you are looking to retire soon, best you find a seminar to take about it sooner than later so you are kinda prepared. Lots to go through.

The work done at Point Bar should be completed by now and you should have some new dirt to play in. We are looking forward to Let’s Go Gold Panning Days in May and praying it doesn’t snow 3 feet like it did about 10 years ago. Hopefully we will have been out finding gold at least once before then, but who knows. It could snow into June this year. :>O In the mean time we are testing metal detectors, packing and repacking the truck, repairing equipment and waiting.

We attended the American Legion ceremony this past week honoring all the veterans from the post in Longmont that had died this past year. Larry's Dad belonged to the group having been a WWII vet. Very nice. Each family was presented with a certificate and then the list of names was burned. The youngest son is still looking for work and has now expanded his search to the Denver area and out of Greeley. Although he had a job in February, the company changed their phone script and expected them to lie to clients. He decided he could not do that and quit after a few days of it.

The new prospectors networking community at ning is keeping me busy. Blogging in two places has certainly been a challenge, but it has been fun these past few weeks. Met some very nice people there and looking forward to meeting some more. Are you finding gold? If so let us know. Post a comment at the bottom of this blog and tell us what you have found. Have fun out there and add to your stash of gold and coins.

Happy Easter and Passover to All!
NEW! Prospecting Community Network! We have great group started with several already blogging and getting involved. You will be able to view the whole site for a few more weeks, and then only the main page. Check it out, and join up.

The BLM and GPOC are having some work done down at Point Bar fixing the coyote holes and uncovering some new area for you to play in. They should have the work completed this weekend. Don’t forget to join us there for Let’s Go Gold Panning Days May 8-10th.

Denver will host the first GPAA show they have had in three years on May 2nd and 3rd. A good time for all, and they give away some pretty nice door prizes. Lots to see here, a panning contest, and vendors of all sorts. $5.00 at the door gets a vial of gold to the first 100 through.

In the news the past few days were some interesting articles including one about the woman who sold those gold coins in a bank in Utah for face value. Here is the REST of the story .
Everyone knows how I love to talk about gold, but I found an article this past week about what silver might be ready to do and why it just might outstrip gold when all is said and done. Kitco was where I found this and you might want to check them out for information on metals. http://www.kitco.com/ind/Ruff/ruff_apr032009.html . Bullish on gold? Read this article for a nice take on why you just might be right. http://news.yahoo.com/s/prweb/20090408/bs_prweb/prweb2282734_3 .

I have two more days before I can go out prospecting for gold. Lent will be over, and my pledge will be over and I can search for gold once again! Getting ready for Larry’s retirement, the website, the NEW website, the blog, and twitter has kept me busy, so the time has past quickly. I, however, have been too busy to keep the blog like I would like to or to make as many changes in the website as were needed. I will continue to work on the site pages, but some things will begin to slip through as prospecting season starts to heat up. Hey, a girl has to do, what a girl has to do! LOL!

Gold was absolutely flat today. I have never seen an open market day like this before. It was spooky.

Legislative stuff: S22 of the Omnibus Public Land Management was defeated, however it was resurrected and attached to HR146 by Senator Reid in the Senate and passed before debate or comment was made on it. Some 88,000 acres (if I remember the numbers correctly) have been put into some type of protected status since the first of the year. That is a HUGE percentage of our state that is now out of public use to the average man. The 500 MPH train wreck continues to barrel its’ way down the tracks without the ability for ANYONE to comment, debate, or change anything….the Dems simply pass a resolution to prohibit it. What do you suppose will happen when this train hits the bick wall? I'm thinkin' the swan dive over the cliff into the abyss could be spectacular. Just hope I'm NOT on board, know what I mean? LOL!

Although President Obama pledged to stop earmarks, these bills have contained over 8,500 earmarks that cannot be commented on or debated, leaving you, the taxpayer, in the dark. I suppose if he gets around to this by the end of his Presidency he can claim he stopped earmarking, but in the mean time he is signing everything that comes before him, even as he grandstands about what he isn’t going to allow.

That’s it for this week. Hope to see some of you at one of the events this summer. Don’t be shy, come on over and let me know who you are. I promise I won’t bite! Now, get out there and FIND SOME GOLD!

NEW! Prospecting Community Network! Site was updated this morning with a new template and color scheme. You will be able to view the whole site for a few more weeks, and then only the main page. Check it out, and join up.

You know how prospectors are….not too responsible when it comes to an opportunity to go prospecting and anything else that should get done. With snow on the way for today, and Larry with a day off, we decided to take the detectors out and do some more coin shooting. The MXT, of course, found 10 times what anyone else did, but getting out of the house and into the field was what we were really after. (And if you believe that, then I have some swamp land for sale in the Everglades). LOL! He came home this time with almost $3.00 in coins, as you can see from the photo. (I found a nickel! AND a pair of scissors)

Gold dropped to under $900 this week, as you can see from the top of the page. G20 talks, a DOW that was up and the talk of the IMF selling over 400 tonnes were some of the things at the heart of the drop. Lots of news floated around this past week about metals manipulation in the last quarter of ’08. Copper was up this past week, though, and analysts say the copper will lead the metals higher…..don’t know if this is a blip on the screen or a true breakout yet.

Oh, man! Can you feel Spring in the air and that itch to be out with a shovel, dredge, highbanker, or metal detector looking and finding gold? It is getting real hard to stay in the city while the snow piles up and we have to wait for it to melt in the high country. Fortunately, I have the new prospectors networking community to keep me busy. The site gives us so many opportunities to interact with other prospectors, AND you can get answers from a community instead of just me. Of course, Larry and I will be putting our two cents worth in, but there are so many others out there with information that do not have a platform from which to give their expertise. If you think the same people are joining this that are in other forums, then you would be wrong. While we will attract some of them, we personally know many prospectors who have never even considered joining such a group. Their knowledge is vast and they can certainly answer an array of questions with many points of view. Many we have personally prospected with for years.

Hope you are following my twitter updates that are posted in the lefthand sidebar. I twitter most days and even have some interesting information for you once in a while. I will be putting a twitter bar up on the website, too, probably near the bottom of the page. HTML for now until I have time to figure out the flash. Do hope you visit the new community site…..we love the new template! All for now.

Gold Prices and Gold Prospecting

With world leaders seeming to be finding some common ground in banking this week at the G20 conference, it looks like gold is holding back a bit until we find out more about what the new agreements will mean. The selling off of more gold by the IMF (International Monetary Fund) is back on, and this could mean a rise or fall in gold depending on the mood of the market in general. Buyers could perceive this sell off as a buying opportunity, or they could decide that other investments are looking better now than in the near past. Several countries have also voiced their desire to move more of their capital back into gold, and so there is definitely demand, how much is uncertain. India did not buy gold from the market again in March, either.

The most sure sign that gold will rise could more probably be the return of inflation and a sliding dollar. This may not happen this year, but with all the money being printed around the world it is predicted to be a fact in the next year or so. When inflation is back with us, gold is positioned to rise.

So, in the mean time, you might want to get that gold prospecting equipment out and head to the hills, or wherever your favorite prospecting spot is and find yourself a little extra gold. Need a reference book to find another spot you heard about? Check out your equipment before you go, though, and make sure your pump, hoses and clamps are all working. (It's the pits when the clamps break!) Got all the screws in one place and ready to go? How about that special sized screwdriver you used for another project last winter and forgot to put back in the pack? Yeah, been there, done that! LOL! The trip to town to TRY and find another one was a real blast, too. While your at it, make sure you have all your permits up to date. You can find the forms to print off and send in for the Arkansas River drainage in Colorado and Cache Creek on this page of the BLM.gov site. Get out on some of those warm Colorado days and find some gold before we get out and find it! LOL!
Good Prospecting to You,
Shirley
