Visiting Cache Creek

It's HERE! The Porta Potty was put in at Cache Creek this weekend! And they even came in and serviced it while we were there.

Yes, gold prospectors, the porta potty is a reality at Cache Creek. This is a BIG plus for us and credit needs to go to the BLM and GPOC for all their hard work and cooperation to keep this area open for gold prospecting.

The creek is runing with lots of water now, but those who were in the area this past weekend left trash all around, cigarette butts, and even had fires within the area on the ground and not in fire pans. These are things that can not be tolerated. Trash removal and fire pans are state wide regulations that must be abided by. I would like to remind all that keeping this area open has been a long struggle for everyone involved and we certainly do not wish to see this oportunity destroyed because of a few who have decided that they do not have to abide by rules and regulations. Oh, and, PICK UP YOUR BUTTS!

We met some great people while we were there, even one who is a member of the hookedongoldprospecting.ning.com membership site. Another has been hiking in since mid spring after seeing the new sign at the beginning of the power line road. Also took it upon himslef to reattach the papers to the kiosk. Thanks Issac!

As always, we enjoyed ourselves completely and look forward to our next time there. Oh, we didn't find much gold this trip, but we will find an area we can work and find some gold. Did hear another story of big gold coming out of the highbanking area last year late, though.

It started raining here just before dusk, and we may get some more during the night, but the next few days look to be nice with possible showers in the afternoon. Those who follow on Twitter saw my first twitpics posted there today. The white peaks were gorgeous this morning. As Always,

Good Prospecting to You,
Shirley

Gold Prospecting from Buena Vista

Mt. Harvard from Snowy Peaks RV Park

Hey gang! We have sunshine this morning in Buena Vista! Yesterday was so gloomy no one wanted to do much of anything. We had a propane bottle to try and fix and then it started to rain...and rain. It started about 3:30 p.m. and was still raining when we went to bed. Not hard, just steady. One of my twitter follows sent a twitpic from west of here while it was snowing.

We have a couple of days to try and get out to Cache Creek and see what has been going on so far. We might even pick up some gold while we are there prospecting. :>D

I have a gold prospecting article for you today on the resurgence of gold panning in the U.K. at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1188876/Gold-rush-How-hundreds-turned-prospecting-beat-crunch.html

Later prospectors.

Cache Creek Gold

Mosquito Pass

Yes, it is still cloudy and gloomy here, and it has rained twice since lunchtime, but we are still in the beautiful Colorado Mountains for the summer, and you ain't! LOL. Ok, maybe you are, but most of you ain't.

Good news yesterday! The BLM gate to the highbanking area at Cache Creek was open yesterday so let the gold getting begin. Remember to have you special bonds for this area.

While you are in your rush to BBQ and find gold, please remember to take a few minutes to remember or thank those who have served or are serving this Memorial Day Weekend. We know we appreciate each and every one of you, and thank you all for your sacrifices so that we can remain a free people.

Article of interest I came across concerning the future prices of gold can be found at http://www.goldensextant.com/commentary34.html#anchor376929

Gold Prospecting to Begin Memorial Day Weekend

Mt. Massive earlier today from Adelaide

Gold has closed up this week at $956.50 and silver at $14.69. Quite a ride from the $880's a few weeks ago, eh?

Toady we ventured out to do some prospecting. Found a bit of ore and got caught in a downpour at about the Hayden Ranch through Twin Lakes. Granite was dry when we got there on our way back to camp, but by 5:15 p.m. there was some pretty intense rain falling in BV. It has stopped, but we are predicted to have more of the same through the weekend.

To boot, the hills were all white this morning and I expect them to be that way again tomorrow. Hopefully, the gate will get opened tomorrow to the highbanking area at Cache Creek. We'll stop by tomorrow and see if it is or not.

I haven't had much time to blog the last few days, but now that we are settled in, more or less, I will have more time to get more posted about what we are doing, and what is going on. There is much going on on twitter, also, and you can follow the 'twits' with an RSS feeder or your own account.

Speaking of a lot going on, if you haven't joined the new prospectors networking site at http://www.hookedongoldprospecting.ning.com you are missing a lot of information, questions, answers and activity. Discussion groups have been started on many topics and we have members signing up almost daily. The site has lots to keep you busy and interested. Check it out, join up and invite your prospecting friends to do the same.

Good Prospecting to You,
Shirley

Ready for Gold Prospecting

Camp is set up now for the summer here at Snowy Peaks RV Park, and we are a couple of very 'happy campers'. LOL! The weather is gorgeous, sunny and warm. We bugged out about 8 this morning, stopped into Frenchman's Creek to pick up the tailer, and got ourselves parked before noon. All afternoon we have been getting things situated and cleaned, and making lists of what we need to bring up next week. Wifi connection is great, and the dish is working, so we are all set for prospecting for gold, blogging, and relaxing. Looks like rain tomorrow, but we have plenty to keep us busy if it gets too nasty.

Gold closed the weekend at $930.90 a nice leap from this morning before we left. I found an article this past week on the mint at Carson City I thought you might like. If you ever find any gold coins made by this mint, be sure and keep them. They are usually in high demand and sell for very good prices.

Watch this next week for information on Cache Creek and the changes and new items coming to the area on the website. I have placed some of the information on http://www.hookedongoldprospecting.ning.com for members to read. Anyone can join the site and we have lively discussions going on about metal detecting, Cache Creek, and Lost Canyon.

Have to go get ice cream.....I know, but we gotta do what we gotta do. More later this week.

Good Prospecting to You,
Shirley
P.S. We read this morning that mining companies are suing Ken Salazar, head of the department of the Interior, for canceling some of the scheduled auctions for leases earlier this year.

Point Bar Mother's Day Weekend '09

The Pit at Point Bar
One of five camps this weekend

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Everyone is having a great time this weekend at Point Bar State Recreational Area. Met some great people and everyone is finding gold. We all have some sore muscles, but the warm temps and getting out to play in the dirt has been enjoyed by all. Looking forward to another great day today, and putting more gold into our vial.

Weather here has been warm, although with wind. We saw this morning that they had about 3 inches of snow yesterday at Eldora and Denver was chilly with rain. Sure glad we are in Salida right now. :>D

Let's Go Gold Panning Days

Working the Gold Pans at Point Bar -
What came out of 3/4 of a bucket with two pans

Our first day at Let's Go Gold Panning Days was good. The windy was pesky, but we pulled enough fine gold from the pit to cover the bottom of a vial. :>D We got to the GPOC camp too late to set up the highbanker, so we dug about 6 3/4 buckets and panned them at the river. The picture above shows what came out of one of those buckets.

We did eat dirt all day, as the wind kicked up all afternoon, but the weather was sunny and warm enough to get my feet in the river. We will have more time today to take more pictures, so stay tuned tomorrow for day two.

Gold closed yesterday at $916.20 and had a very nice rise over last week. I missed John Gregory's 150th anniversary of his discovery of gold in the Blackhawk area on May 6th, but I did find a nice article on it you can read at the link.

Good Prospecting to You,
Shirley

I have a request from the Colorado State Department of Health for a link to information about the swine flu outbreak.
http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/epr You can also track swine flu from this website at http://mashable.com/2009/04/25/track-swine-flu
My own opinion: Wash your hands and no kissing if your partner is sick. Regular flu kills 30,000 + in the U.S. every year, and even more around the world, yet that is not considered an epidemic. Are governments and media attempting to divert your attention to what is really going on behind your back? I have to wonder at this tactic, all too often used, when something is not going well on Capitol Hill.

NEWS

NEW! Prospecting Community Network! We have great group started with several already blogging and getting involved. You will be able to view the main page when you pull the site up to decide if it is a place you would like to hang out at.

Man, did you watch gold drop this week? Nearly got a nosebleed! LOL! Did you notice the Gazette was late? If so, I am sorry that I did not get it posted last Friday. With retirement plans going on, of course everything did not go as smoothly as I had hoped and there were many other things that jumped on the list of things to do. You know how it is. LOL!

The new prospecting forum/network is hopping with new members and questions to be answered, too, and it has taken a lot of time this past week along with everything else. Not complaining here, but we have been busy. Retirement parties went well, and Larry was very surprised when the Limo drove up to take us home on his last day at work.

Looks like, right now, we will have nice weather this next weekend for Let’s Go Gold Panning Days at Point Bar, sponsored by Woody and GPOC. It is always a lot of fun getting out with folks that weekend, so if you have a day or the weekend to come out and play, please join us Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday for some gold prospecting fun. You can find more info on this event at www.gpoc.com . After that we will be looking forward to a summer of prospecting. Everyone is tired of the gloomy weather and ready to get out and get away, as well as find some gold!

I will try to follow a format for the summer that will include links to information sites, questions and answers on prospecting, as well as pictures and information about what we are doing this summer, but this will be the last official Gazette for the summer. Let me know how you like the new format, and maybe I will just adapt the blog to that. I seem to have a problem doing both without it taking too much time.

In the news this past week; some links to information that went across the wires for you to read. The first one is about an interesting way to ‘prospect’ for gold by taking it from your employer http://www.jrdeputyaccountant.com/2009/05/woman-steals-500-pounds-of-gold-from.html . There has been a lot in the news recently concerning ‘protected status’ lands and wind and solar power. Most of the usable wind and solar power in located in the western part of the U.S. Legislators continue to put vast areas of public land into protected status here, and there is much debate about how to use the west’s wind and solar power with its’ demand for water and land for the panels and towers. There is also much debate about land access to be able to put this electric power into the grid via transmission lines. As legislators put more and more land into protected status, once clear avenues to the power grid are taken away before the project can be completed, thus wasting billions of dollars in the attempt to put this ‘green’ energy to use. There is also much debate on just how green this technology really is, when taken into context with manufacturing. However, I found website with some information about protected land in the west, with an accompanying map that shows all the protected land now in the west. You will notice that unprotected lands are in white. Here is the link to U. S. protected areas database article http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=2201 If you are wondering about how this pertains to prospecting for gold, all the darker areas will be harder for you to access or impossible. There is a lot of area out there that is already in protected status, or as I like to refer to it as wilderness without an act of Congress, and more is added all the time. Soon, they will have all of us trapped in small confined spaces where we cannot ‘hurt’ mother nature and wildlife. Lookin’ forward to it, aren’t you?

I wanted to say “Hi” to Travis who I saw at the GPAA show yesterday, and is a member of www.hookdongoldprospecting.ning.com . Hope to see a lot more of you this summer and as time goes on. That’s all for me this weekend. Gotta go and clean up after the open house. Ah, Monday may actually be a welcome relief! ;>D
