NEWS

WOW! Today it has been a challenge to get off of twitter and facebook and get to the newsletter! Facebook has some new features and a new look, so I spent some time on it to get used to the new feel. And then there is twitter, with all the news flying around with the people I follow. If you aren’t on twitter, you are missing a great resource for information….but be warned; it can be addictive to read everything! LOL!

One of the new communication items I keep finding on the web can be found at ning.com. It is a website that allows you to set up a forum type social network for your niche. GPOC president, Eric Vesterby, suggested a website for me to look at, and I noticed it was set up with ning. I have seen several others in other niches set up with the same website, and so Eric and I thought it might be a good idea to set one up for Hooked on Gold. I’ll be working on that this next week. It has a very interesting array of options that I think you will like. Social networks are very hot for users right now, and I could get you information quicker AND answer questions quicker. You could also ask questions of others and get answers. There is also a chat room and various discussion boards, so I think this is going to be a good fit for us.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THE FORMS PAGE IS STILL NOT WORKING!!!!! It is posted on the page prominently in two places that it is not working, but every day I have someone try to send it to me and all I get is the email with no information attached to it. Please send me an email to either info@hookedongold.com or hookeongold@gmail.com and ask for the specific information you are wanting. I can send it to you that way, but not with the form. If I get this social site working, I’ll take the form page down as I can post the information on the social site.

FYI, I did buy a new emerald ring last weekend, but not to wear now. My friend Pedro Arevalo who owns and operates T.L.E. International was taking old inventory back to Colombia to rework, and one of the rings has a very sweet marquise cut emerald of fantastic quality with VS1 baguettes in it. I have really like the stones in the ring, but I have one that is styled similarly with a mandarine garnet. I asked how much he wanted for the stones and he gave me a very good price, so I bought the stones to rework into a wedding set later on.

Are you ready for motorized equipment prospecting season to begin on the Arkansas April 1st? Everyone I talk with is itching to begin. Point Bar has been busy already with all the warm weather we had a couple of weeks ago, and getting into the water early is on everyone’s mind. We can’t until after Easter, as that was what I gave up for Lent. Believe me, giving up early prospecting is a big sacrifice for me! We are making headway with retirement the end of April, too, and setting up things for the summer. So far, we will be forced to take a week off before then or lose the time and money for it, and we will need to readjust a loan we made that the rules changed on. No BIG shoes have dropped so far, although we continue to watch for one that will stop us for another year. So far, we do not foresee anything large enough for us to pull back, yet. It’s gonna be a GREAT summer!

I also heard from Eric that the claims that were placed below GPOC’s Prospector #3 last summer, North of Buena Vista, have been denied and the area is once again open to the public. The BLM was there last Fall to see the claimants break camp and leave. This is GREAT news for everyone!

I had one link this past week that might be interesting for you to check out. It’s entitled “Gold going down in favor of equities, and silver up?” http://www.safehaven.com/article-12794.htm I still see some who predict the gold ETF’s could figure prominently in the course of where gold heads. Inflation will also be a determining factor in the next few years, but the ETF’s hold a tremendous amount of vaulted gold and when those folks decide to start selling, it could put gold in a tailspin. Silver is in a similar position, but they don’t own the same percentage of known bullion that the gold ETF’s do. Probably won’t happen until we hyper inflate, though, so watch for them to start pulling out of their gold positions when they need dollars to pay the rent with. In the meantime, gold coins are beginning to rise nicely and are commanding about 20% to 30% or more over spot for AU 55 and better.

HR699 is still on a desk somewhere. GPOC has a information on what you can do to get a letter to your congressperson before it gets passed. Do not bother signing and sending on any type of petition that gets passed by e-mail. It is a waist of your time, as it just gets passed around. There is no way for anyone to retrieve all those signature and send it anywhere, much less expect that anyone would even look at or consider such a petition that was received by a representative, as all of the names could be trumped up. Come on people…..use your heads. Where does it say in these emails how it will EVER get delivered, to whom, and WHEN? If you want to say anything to your representatives, you have to do it YOURSELF! You can find more information on this at http://www.gpoc.com .

Lots more going on, but I’ll have to blog it later this week. Happy Birthday today to my youngest grandson who is turning 2 years old!!! Have a happy Friday the 13th, everyone. I’m outta here.

NEWS

Boy has a lot happened since my last Gazette! Gold spot price has been near $750 and back above $900. The DOW has been on a rollercoaster as well, and we now have nearly a trillion dollars loaned out to the financials who apparently can’t add and subtract even as well as you and I. In case you aren’t aware of what the 50 billion coming out of the Exchange Stabilization Fund is, it comes out of the U.S. gold reserves. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all wipe away our bad decision debts as easily as some of them have? Oh well, at least we all make enough to be able to bail out the institutions who lend US money.? AND pay their debt back along with our own.

Did you get a chance to see the fabulous gold specimens that were shown at the Denver Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Show last weekend? That big nugget shown in the picture at the top was at Colorado Nuggets and is around 116 ounces and came out of Colombia. Pretty impressive! The other picture is a piece of gold showed by Collectors Edge that looks like a pinecone. GREAT show and we were all VERY busy showing the public how to pan for gold with GPOC. Oh, by the way. GPOC’s website is now back up and running, and you can view it al www.gpoc.com That also means that our pages will come down soon that held the GPOC pages.

I wanted to take some time today to thank all of you who read my blog and visit my site regularly. I met a lot of you in the field this year, and was surprised by how many people out there already knew about the site. Last year about one in 10 people had heard about it, but this year it was closer to one in three! You are all a great bunch of people and I an honored to have you want to keep up with what is going on with Hooked on Gold. Hopefully we bring you some interesting news most weeks and keep you up to date with some of what goes on in the mining world. Thanks again, and may you find that big gold nugget somewhere in the world you explore. I always hear “Are ya rich yet?” and I have to say “yes, yes, we are”.

Kitco has had a run on silver coins this last week and has upped its’ bid or buyback amount on Silver Maples and Eagles. Gold and silver will continue to be a safe haven for some of your assets. Besides, they are just so darn purty to look at! I saw an article today about a coin store near me. They are having trouble keeping older rare gold or silver coins in stock and were urging anyone with gold coins to come in and sell them. Can’t imagine why you might do that right now, but if you’ve a mind to, you might want to go and see what your local coin dealer is offering to buy coins for. This store said they were paying a premium. Now, I’m not sure what that means, but I’m also pretty sure they have to make a profit, so maybe they aren’t giving what they are worth. What do you think? I haven’t checked out e-Bay recently, but you used to be able to sell them there at a pretty good price.

The Comex raised the margin price for gold today by a whopping 47%! They cited accelerating gold prices as the reason. Gold also rose AND fell the largest percentages in its’ history….all within a couple of days! The Bull is in the house, but I’m afraid I still think the Bear will stare him down. It ain’t over yet. Well that’s about all I got today. See you next week, and watch the blog for some more stories about our Sept. adventures.

Good Prospecting to You,
Shirley

NEWS

What a golden time of year! Do you have that smell of new fallen snow at your house? Some of us have had too much of it, and some nothing but ice storms. Hopefully everyone has their electricity back on. The Holiday is just around the corner, so I hope you have most of your Christmas shopping finished and the cards in the mail. They say the biggest mailing day will be this Monday, so get it off before then. You may be lucky enough to have post offices in your area that are staying open longer tomorrow.

If you have been watching the price of gold this past week, you have seen it go from a high of around $815 back to just below what it was last Friday. I am reading more and more material and financial papers that are agreeing that gold has and will continue to follow the stock market in it's ups and downs. If you look at both charts for that past 5 years, they are pretty much mirror images. What does that mean for gold next year? It can go either way. If the markets are up Gold will probably follow, and if it is down, ditto. Yeah, cop out, you say. But, this is a new trend in gold that the world has not seen before, and all are still waiting to see how it plays out. If gold is no longer the inflation hedge that everyone has always turned to, what will be?

China and India will continue to demand more of the world's gold every year, so the price must reflect that pressure. Who knows how much old gold is still in the vaults of the world's banks, and they trade it all the time as a commodity, often manipulating the price as they did much of '07. I find the ups and downs of the gold price in recent years to be nearly unpredictable, as there are so many variables that can and do effect the price. One thing remains sure. People will ALWAYS collect and horde gold. They love the yellow color, it's special properties, how it looks against the skin, and how heavy it feels.

New regulations are coming out this next year for Cache Creek usage. I went into some detail about it in the last blog, so if you haven't read it, you might want to do so.

GPOC members and anyone wanting to join the group needs a "heads up" as to the membership dues change in '08. Singles will be $25.00 and families $30.00 a year, the first price raise in 15 years. The cost of maintaining the claims goes up each year, as well as things like postage and paper. The new GPOC website is coming along nicely, although it isn't published as of yet. When that happens, I'll blog it here, so watch for it. They are ready to add their old store back in, as well, so you will have another source for your "stuff." I am hiring an expert early next year to help me with the problems I ca not seem to figure out on my own, and have purchased a new template for the website. A new look and feel will go along with it, and, with luck, I can put up a page for all to look at before the whole thing goes live and you are in shock and not sure where you are. Colors look like they will be in the brown, golden yellow, and burnt orange ranges, and it will have a more denim/western feel. Right now you can find the Christmas giffs that are sprinkled around the site for your enjoyment, and after the holidays I should be able to get some new video clips working in the pages as well. Have a fantastic week, and I will report to you on Friday with another chapter in gold. (HINT: The new ICMJ is out and I haven't read it yet. Larry always gets to it first and he isn't finished yet.)

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

NEWS

Gold news abounds this week with the announcement of the construction that is beginning at the Climax Moly mine north of Leadville. The reopening of the mine is bringing much needed jobs to the are, and they plan to consturct several buildings in the next two years with a 2010 date for the beginning of mining operations

Also in the news this week from the financials, is the drop in production of gold in South Africa. Gold production has fallen from an output of 400 tonnes in 2001 to what will be nearly 240 estimated tonnes for 2007. Also, China will soon outpace the U.S. as the second largest gold producer in the world.

Colorado based Newmont mining has been consistently selling off it's other mining interests to concentrate on it's copper/gold production, according to a spokesperson this last week. Gold is expected to settle around $800 for the near future as the dollar continues to slide. If the Feds reduce rates again in December, it will not bode well for the dollasr, however, it will mean that U.S. goods and services will be much cheaper for foreigns counries like Canada to buy.

Another interesting thing I saw this week was that the true inflation rate in MEXICO was 3.7% this past year. Pretty impressive given their past problems. They are also creating many new jobs and are beginning to attract their own citizens away from the U.S. Now, if they succeed in keeping their people in Mexico, who will fill all the jobs in the U.S. that they do now? Interesting dilema.

Have you looked at the price of gold coins recently? The Morgan mint is advertising SILVER dollar coins for $19.95 plus shipping on very good to AU ungraded coins. Gold coins are up at least 20% since August.

As a last note, GPOC is almost ready to upload their new site. They were hopeful that they could get it done by now, but a few glitches have them jumping through hoops. Watch for it the next week or so. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
