Are you ready for some turkey? I know that we are. Thanksgiving will be quiet here since the families have all gotten together early, but we still plan on having an abbreviated feast complete with yams and turkey and pumpkin pie. I can smell it now, can you?


I am thinking about golden memories today of family and prospecting outings with friends. Finding that first piece of gold and the thrill of the mountains in general spur us on in the winter when all is dreary and cold. We have much to be thankful for here in the good ol’ USA. We may be in the midst of economic troubles, but we will bounce back……we always do. AND usually we end up better than we were before, So before you thinking we’re done, remember there is so much going on that isn’t on the economist’s radar yet, that you can’t count us out before we even hit the mat. Innovation is what we are about, and in times like these, the American people tighten their belts, and reeducate themselves into better jobs in companies that will propel us into the next 20 years of prosperity. We have our problems, but I’m bullish on America and Americans. We alone have the ability to decide our own futures. Change isn’t something that comes in an instant, but over time, so get out there and start doing something to make that change in your own life and situation. Pay down your debt and stop borrowing, take that class that could get you that better job, start a business you’ve been wanting to run, start cooking at home instead of going out (WAY healthier, less expensive, too, and it isn’t hard to do), drive less and walk more, take a foreign language course,


I was searching for images of cows this past week (Yeah, you all know about http://www.bellahealthsystems.com/ and who they are to me) and saw something interesting when I searched free (put whatever you are looking for here) images. Google kept giving me a reference at the top of the page with about four thumbnail images that when you click on it, you came up with a search page that listed every picture it could find with that tag on it. Not only that, but when you clicked on the image you were taken to the page where it was found on the website it was found on. If you search gold or gold prospecting you could search an awful lot of websites you might have a hard time finding for the search term you used in a natural search. Try it this weekend and see if you find some websites you have never seen before with your search terms. I was amazed!

Things are still hopping at our house, so it has still been difficult to stay ahead of everything. There is a lot of news concerning gold and gold prospecting, and I have several links to blogs and pages you might be interested in. I am very excited about a new affiliate that has EVRYTHING YOU WANT for gold prospecting, too! Equipment, books, maps, pans, classifiers, you name it! You could access them on your own, but, if you go through me, I get to earn a few pennies to help with my website expenses. (Yeah, believe it or not, running a website DOES cost money!) I don’t get a click through, so if you don’t find what you want at the price you want, my affiliate isn’t out any money. So, are you cold enough yet? We got some light drizzle this morning that froze on the roadways due to temps just under freezing. I still have not turned on the furnace, yet, as it just hasn’t been cold enough in the townhouse to warrant it. I don’t know, but maybe I’m somewhat resistant to cold from all that panning in cold mountain streams, and metal detecting at high altitudes. I’ll tell ya, there have been some of those days that the car was a welcome refuge from the biting winds! Still, I wish it was still summer so I could wander in the woods with a gold pan and a shovel. I remember the smell of the pines and the beauty of the fall colors, listening to the rushing of the river, and wondering if we will have enough water at Cache Creek to pan in. Did you see any wildlife? I mean, in the wild, not in the zoo. The mountains looming in the distance, the call of gold in the gold bearing areas all add to the lure of the gold fields. Ah, how we live for summer!


We celebrated our 37th year of marriage this past week. Ok, celebrate is a bit strong for what we do, but we remember it. LOL! We were married just before Thanksgiving, and so there are always a lot of activities going on at that time and we often have a quiet dinner at home with cards and flowers. Or not.


As I am writing this I see that gold is up and platinum is only about $17.40 more than gold! WOW! How far platinum has fallen since its’ high earlier this year. I am also reading that gold coins are in scarce supply and demand is starting to surge. With the stock market in the dump, the gold ETF’s are trading at well under the spot price of gold, so the paper is not a good investment right now.


There have been a lot of blog and URL links this week that you might be interested in. Here are a few. The first is a blog by a man who lives in Alaska and he writes about the state and its trails. You would think that with most of our gold finding season behind us, an early Thanksgiving feast finished, and the fact that it isn’t quite Christmas shopping season yet, that we would be having a nice, quiet reprieve before the holidays, right? NOT! In fact, our lives seem to have been even BUSIER than they were this summer. I really didn’t think that was possible, but it has taken me three days to catch up on the household things that are URGENT since Wednesday. When I realized it was time to publish the Newsletter, well, the list of things to write about was done, but that was it. So, I am a day late, but by Wednesday, I was THREE days late.

You read about part of the newsletter items yesterday in a blog post, and so, I will finish today with what else is going on. The biggest news in Colorado mining this past week has been Freeport-McMoran’s decision to postpone the opening of the Climax Moly mine indefinitely and layoff 25% of their workforce at the Henderson mine. They are planning to complete the construction going on at the Climax mine, but opening it has been delayed due to the slow down in steel production and demand. We had our first measurable snow yesterday here in Denver with a quick storm that moved in early in the morning and left almost a quarter inch of the stuff, which melted as soon as the sun came out later in the day. That means we did not make the latest date for snow fall in the Denver area, which would have been Nov. 22nd. I-70 and the mountains have had several good snows over the past couple of weeks, and most ski areas opened early.

Open Letter on Gold Demand and Supply, 'GOLD TO BREAK TO UPSIDE, DOLLAR TO COLLAPSE', and Gold Outperforms... Everything .

As to the gold ETFs, you are essentially buying paper, and the paper has been trading at a discount to the real price of gold. Invest in the real thing, if you are looking to do that. Gold miners should go up with this trend in a bull market in gold, too.

Is It Friday? Must Be time to Find Out What Gold Closed At

Is it Friday already!? I cannot believe a whole week has gone by already, and I am not ready with the newsletter, so you will get a mini version blog post today, and I’ll get it ready tomorrow with all that is going on....that is if I can stay connected right now. Connections have failed here just now and all day yesterday, so who knows.

Gold touched below $700 this past week, but has rallied today to end the week at $742.30, while the markets still can’t make up their minds.

GPOC’s meeting included a run down on the Arkansas River project that artist Cristobal wants to put up on it in 2012. If you are not interested in seeing a red sky while you are rafting, you might want to let the Alamosa BLM office know about it. They are also wanting to erect pylons all along the river banks to support the red material they want to suspend over the river…… for miles. They also have no intention of removing said pylons when they are done, either. Now, I’m probably wrong, but I think they have to dig a whole lot of dirt to put these concrete pylons up, and then leave for all posterity to admire. I’m not sure how all this damage is different from prospecting, but the Arkansas Headwaters group seems to be in favor of this type of damage.

The November Gem Show last weekend had a lot of people wandering, but sales were very slow. I have new jewelry, however, that will be perfect for the Christmas season and beyond. 18K gold and emeralds, of course.

Ah, another week with emeralds in 18K gold….what could be better? Ok, ok. I know there is finding gold and all, but there’s about a foot or more of snow falling in the Colorado mountains, and this is the best game in town for me right now. Veterans Day is this Tuesday, so remember all our vets who have given so much for this country. Hooked on Gold Thanks you!!!

International California Mining Journal in their October issue has a story on miners being “dusted”. Check out the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in google and then search Richard J. Ennis. You should find it interesting.

Also, they reported on the Colorado roadless areas rules the U.S. Forest Service has published. It is 23 pages and too long for here, but you can see it at http://roadless.fs.fed.us/documents/colorado_roadless/fr_co_rule.pdf A lot of double speak and charts, but a once over skim looks like they will eliminate roads to over 4 million acres of Colorado.

Goes hand in hand with what Colorado’s Democratic Governor, Legislature and Congressional representatives would like to do….put our public lands into wilderness without an act of Congress, so the public can’t access them. The mountain bikers and hikers don’t like it when they get excluded right along with everyone else. They usually think they will be able to access areas unfettered by the rest of us. The last one I heard about was this summer involving Browns Canyon, again. Let’s see….California group to conduct a15 year study…..limited access by anyone….and you would have to apply for a permit to use the area and get approved. Even horses would be limited for travel. Seems like you might want to start applying for those permits now so you can go camping in 2020.

Got a thought on the price of gold and the dollar. Now, we know that a declining dollar is supposed to be good the gold, right? Well, how come do you suppose, the dollar is strengthening when the banks are such a mess? Consider this: If all those 401K’s get put into cash, that would be dollars, right? And if we are buying all of our own dollars, are we strengthening our own dollar right now? What happens when we stop liquidating assets in 401K’s, IRA’s and Hedge Funds? Falling dollar and rising gold? HMMMMM.. Not sure. Don’t know.

As I announced yesterday, I will be including some links to other blogs and information I get through goolge alerts. Anyone can sign up for this service from google, but be aware that if you want your alerts to be specific and not general, you need to put your search word in quotation marks so goolge only finds that word or words and doesn’t send you alerts on all the words singularly. Hope you found some good information on Thursday’s links.

Google Alerts on Gold and Gold Prospecting

Reminder from this Summer. I can smell the breeze, can you?

Hey all you gold prospectors out there! Man, o, man has the Fall been busy this year!!!! I keep thinking I will have time to blog, and the next thing I know I’m climbing the stairs to go to bed! I have finally subscribed to Google Alerts, and they are sending me some very interesting information I will share with you as space and time permits. There are several interesting blogs you might like to follow, or read their post that I link to. It should give me some more to blog about, too.

Market Rubbemeker’s blog on gold is very interesting, and follows some of my own thinking on the subject. Give this page a read and see if you don’t gain some insite on this page entitled So That's Why Gold Prices Are Up Today .

For those of you who like the Minelab metal detectors, you will find this forum of interest. I am referencing a page on it that is describing coils at Re: 5x10" DD/HF Coil and the 6" DD/HF Coil - Visible Differences , and please note that the page is almost a year old. Doesn’t matter, though, ‘cause the info is still the same.

Baby boy is in the Philippines now for three days. Haven’t heard from him yet, but I think they started their classes today, and they are teaching at night. Might be a bit confusing right now, what with jetlag, nights that are days, and all they needed to do to prepare for their classes. Hopefully he will give us a jingle this weekend.

Elections are finally over!!!! Yah! Dems in control, though, are not good for public lands. They like to think that the public has no right to use ‘em. Also means that we will continue to lose places to prospect for gold and finding gold will become more difficult. ICMJ had some interesting things to say about them in their latest issue that I’ll cover tomorrow in the newsletter. Hey all you gold ghosts and goblins! We have good weather in the forecast tonight, so you can troll for tricks or treats without your heavy coats here in Denver. In case you think you are on the wrong blog, you aren’t. I just thought I would have a little color fun today since it IS Halloween, and all, and I have learned so much in the last three years running Hooked on Gold! Yes, that’s right. We celebrated our third year of being online in October. (Looks like the black background and white text may not copy to blogger. BUMMER!!!! It looked FAB in Word!)

Check out the new gadgets in the side bar. Yeah, the one where you can subscribe to the rss feed and the one where you can be one of our “followers” just like on the social bookmarking sites. Of course, if you want to read anonymously, you can still do that, too. You can also catch me on Facebook.

The news seems to be all politics with the election looming next Tuesday, but I did pick up a few interesting mining tidbits this past week. Newmont reported their third quarter down and ExxonMobile was up…..way up. Their third quarter profit was reported at nearly 15 billion dollars. Lot of money, but the interesting thing I heard about this figure is the amount on TAXES they paid on that profit. Are you ready????? 32 Billion dollars. That’s right. They PAID more than twice the amount reported in profits, in taxes to Uncle Sam. The other thing that is never discussed is the amount of that profit that goes into exploration; 6.9 billion dollars for this next quarter.

And just what IS going on with the price of gold these days? I have been watching this past week as platinum sells for under $100 more than gold. Anybody seen copper lately? I didn’t check today, but is has been under $2.00 for some time, now. Stocks seem to think we are out of the woods…..or is that just wishful thinking on the part of bulls before the other shoe drops. Can’t say. Don’t know.

I’ve been very busy learning some new software programs this past week or so, and will be spending time with them as the next month goes by. They should help you find me better in the search engines when I am done, as well as a few new projects I will be starting. This past week was busy trying to lend a hand to a son who will be out of the country for the next three and a half months. He’ll have some golden memories, I am sure, when he gets back to share. We will celebrate Thanksgiving/Christmas with him and the family tomorrow, and wish him bon voyage.

There is so much to comment on this week about gold and its future that I don’t have the space for it. I suggest you go to http://www.kitco.com/ and read some of the commentary going on. Really interesting to see what they are saying.

The new metal detector is out from Whites that mimics the Minelab. Only trouble is, is that it will not find most of Colorado’s gold. It has the same problem Minelab does, it won’t find some of our types of deposits as they don’t register on the Minelab or the new Whites as a solid target. Whites asked a local to review it and they were not pleased with the findings. A sample of the gold it won’t find was sent to Whites, and, sure enough, the new one won’t pick it up. If you are searching for gold in Colorado you might want to consider sticking with the GMT or the MXT. Save the new Whites and the minelab for where you can find gold that is in a more solid mass, not the wires, crystals and flake found in most of our deposits. Oh, the GMT and MXT pick those up too, just not at the depth of the new Whites or the Minelab. But then, these two cannot see this type of gold at all….even right under the coil.

Who would have thought we would have seen near $700 gold prices this year. Even more startling is the fact that platinum has closed this week at $794.00. That’s right…..gold traded higher early last week than platinum is bringing this week. AND they are up from yesterday.

The Whites V/Sat metal detector was interesting last weekend to run, but it will take some getting used to, as I expected. Didn’t find much in the way of gold, and it is looking like it will be our last trip this season. Since our youngest is bound for the Philippines in about 10 days, we will spend his last two Saturdays with him in Greeley. The weekend after will take us to Longmont for a big family picture, as well as the Gem Show being in town. Then Larry will be on call the weekend after that. Pretty much ends our season for us. I am still hearing about trips being made to Cache Creek to find gold, and some exploring that is going on, and as long as the weather holds and the banks don’t freeze, people will still be taking gold out of there until the last day of November.

We saw pictures of a real nice $2.50 gold coin this past week, at Gold ‘N’ Detectors. It was found a few weeks ago with a metal detector and is in very good condition with sharp edges and images. Finder didn’t say where, of course, but he had also found another coin with it.

News is scarce right now, or maybe it is the amount of time I am using to learn a new software program and a script for a new store format. It DOES seem like the magazines are piling up for me to read. Oh, well, they will have to wait until I have time. It’s about time to start running the links again to DIY equipment. Stay tuned each week as I post one or two with the newsletter.

We will have fabulous weather here for the next couple of days before it turns cold just in time for Halloween. Yeah, that’s right. It’s almost “All Hallows Eve” already. Happy Birthday Marsha!!!! She isn’t a witch, ‘cause her B.D. is the day before. That means next Saturday is All Saints Day, Sunday is the end of Daylight Savings, Monday we get a break, and Tuesday we decide who will run our country for the next four years. Busy week! Do you Think There Might Be Gold in the Philippines?

I got blindsided last night by my youngest son. (Yeah, for those of you who know him, that's Matt) He called to say that his company is sending him to the Philippines to help train some classes there for AT&T. Exciting and golden opportunity for him, yes. But here's the kicker.......he is leaving Nov. 3rd......and he won't be back until the middle of February. Yup, he'll miss Thanksgiving, Christmas AND his birthday with us. He was more astounded by that than I was, and I told him that life doesn't always give you opportunities on your terms....that it takes you somewhere and you just have to go regardless of whether the timing is convenient for you or not. So, he is getting his passport, and shots, and trying to figure out what to pack and what to wear, and how to pay his bills while he is gone. Fortunately he will be there during the drier and cooler? part of the tropical year. Humidty in the 90's and he's used to Colorado and Arizona. What a change!

Gold is down today at $730 right now!!!!! Are you still finding gold? We are still finding a little bit, but not much.

Who would ever have thought that the dollar would strengthen so much with all that is going on with the financials here, but that is what is happening to keep gold prices sliding downward. Of course, anyone who follows currencies had a glimmer of what would happen, but to see gold slide this far when so many thought it would be up by now is strange.

The new Gold Prospectors of Colorado officers for ’09 are…….(drumroll)……the same people as last year. I am dumbfounded. Now, I know Eric had decided not to run again this year, so what happened? Is there no one out there willing to let this man get on with his life? Ya, know…..if no one is willing to take the reins of this club soon, what is to become of it? Eric cannot go on being its’ president forever. This will be his fourth year. Even politicians have term limits. Maybe its’ time GPOC did, too.

We have word from the BLM office that they are working on next year’s plan for Cache Creek. They will try to coordinate efforts among two agencies and GPOC to get a porta potty in there next year. Also, we are working on having several retired and interested persons rotate weeks during most of the prospecting season and act as “camp hosts” to assist anyone new to prospecting and help clear up any misunderstandings of rules and regulations for the area. Hopefully this will also help to keep trouble down to a minimum. (We need to come up with another name for these people). The BLM is planning on doing some more tree management next fall, and digging out the beaver pond that has filled up with silt.

I have finally been convinced to buy a “big” metal detector. I love working with my Falcon, but everyone says I need to use a “real” detector. Now, I didn’t go out and get a fancy MXT, ‘cause Larry runs one of those and we can’t use them together. I also, did not get a GMT, as too many other people also use that one and they can’t be used near one another. I opted for what everyone used to use, a Whites V/SAT. It’ll do what I need it to and I won’t be running up and down hillsides with it, so it should be OK for where I will use it. I have trouble swinging them for more than two hours, so after that, I can go back to what I was doing before. Is everybody happy, now?

As I mentioned in an earlier blog, stuff happened today, as it often does, to keep me busy enough I could not get to the newsletter before now. Sorry it is late. As many of you know, I like to get it out around 4:00. However, better late than never, they say. We will have fabulous weather here for the next couple of days before it turns cold. NEW! RSS Feed Added to the Prospectors Blog

Mt Elbert has snow on it, again, and two ski resorts are opening today. Gold Prospecting season is definitely winding down here in Colorado.

It has been chilly here in Denver the past few days, and the house has been wanting some heat. However, I'm stubborn, and try not to turn the furnace on until around Halloween. I have been working on the metal detecting blog for you, and also got a reminder from Rock and Gem that my deadline for a January article is coming up SOON!

I've been reading that Blogger has an RSS feed that can be added to a blog, and I have finally had time to investigate it further. I should be in the "Links" at the bottom of each blog posting. This posting is to see if I can activate it and get it to work right. If so, I have an opportunity to post it to the RSS feed sites. That means that more gold prospectors will be able to find this blog and hookedongold.com.

We have had contact with the BLM about next year's plans for Cache Creek. The office is very busy right now, but they do have a vision in place and I will let you know what it is as soon as I know.

No one from GPOC has let me know who the new officers are for '09, yet, but then I've been too busy to even send an e-mail, either. Ever have a great idea, but have all the support stuff not cooperate? Well, that's where I am this week. I have a line on a full size metal detector for myself, and we may have the 2 1/2 inch proline dredge sold. (Anyone who knows me, knows that I use a Falcon to detect with, AND knows the technique I use, too. Do I find gold? You bet 'cha!) All for now. As always,

Wow. What can be said about what is going on in the markets this week? Gold advanced into the $936 range and then back down. The dollar is up and the Euro is sliding. And the stock markets of the world are near crash mode. On a better note, I am slathering on golden Orange Ginger body lotion and breathing in the aroma deeply so I can go to one of my happy places until this mess sorts itself out. (You can get that at Bath and Body Works if you’d like to give it a try).


News this past week included some about the dredge piles in Breckenridge that the city bought last year and put into their “Open Space” program. According to one of the Planning Committee members, classifying the rocks and removing the dirt that bears gold is not allowed. Neither is gold panning or sluicing allowed. There are several people who are trying to get involved with modifying this attitude, but until we can resolve this issue, you cannot prospect for gold in the dredge piles that are in Breckenridge’s Open Space. The Denver club was successful in getting Jefferson County to allow our gold prospecting activities in their open space a few years ago, so this issue is not closed. Give us some time to work on it and perhaps next season we will have better news about it. (Dang, it’s a bunch of rocks, people!)


I noticed that the goldnstore page is not showing, so I will be spending a little time to see what is up with that. I purchased a shopping cart this past week, and as soon as I can get that working, I’ll be replacing it anyway. It’s a wonder that someone hasn’t told me about it before now.


Also, I was online this past week and watched as someone tried to send for panning tips and DIY bucket classifier instructions without a name or e-mail address to send it to. Folks, you can give me any name you want……Fido will do, but unless I have an e-mail address to send the request to, you can’t get it. I had to watch as this person sent the form in 4 times within 5 minutes. Honestly, I don’t want your e-mail address so I can send you a bunch of stuff you don’t want. I DO wish that some of you would respond to this blog and tell people you don’t get spammed by me. Please? You can post a comment at the bottom of this blog and it will go to get moderated by me and then posted. I only moderate so that I don’t have someone posting profanity I don’t have control over.

Well, our golden fall weather is getting pretty cold today and the weekend looks like it will be pretty chilly, too. Kinda puts a hold on all of our gold prospecting activities, but we are hopeful that November will give us a few nice days to go looking for gold. I know for those in Australia, their season is winding down, too, as most of it is done in the winter months when weather isn’t so HOT. This sure has turned out to be a wild week in the markets. Gold is up over $900 today. We are looking at some cooler temps in the Denver area this weekend as a cold front moves in from out of Alaska. I heard that the high yesterday in Fairbanks we 29 degrees....average is 40. After one of their coldest summers on record, we could be in for a cold winter here as well. Much of our winter weather comes down the jetstream from Alaska.

Did you see the trees that were removed from Cache Creek by the BLM and GPOC members late in September? The BLM is planning on removing more next spring. You can use the wood stacked around for your campfire, but DO NOT REMOVE IT FROM THIS AREA! It is diseased and you will carry that to wherever you take it and it will spread among healthy trees. Ft. Collins is having a time with the beetles that have come out of the mountains with wood that people have brought back with them. While we LOVE the golden Aspens, they simply do not look the same with the pine trees dead. I'll put up some of the pictures I took a couple of weeks ago with the Apsens and the dead lodgepoles in the Dillon area. Pretty sad.

The cold is beginning to bring the gold propsectors back out of the mountains. We spent a fridge day up high last weekend end. Needed a hot bath afterward to warm back up! Found a bit of gold, too, but not much to write home about. Still, and enjoyable day in the Rockies. As always....

So how about that gold swing this week, eh? Up around 925 again and then back to where it is now. There was better news with Wachovia today as they accepted a buy out from Wells Fargo that did NOT include Federal money.

OK, it does look pretty bad out there, but few of us remember the G.D., so I thought I would share a list I saw earlier this week with you.

In the crash of 1929 the Dow Jones industrials plunged 40% in two months; this time around it has taken a year to fall 22%.
The jobless rate jumped to 25% by 1933; it is little more than 6% today.
The gross domestic product shrank by 25% during the early 1930s; it is up over 3% during the past year.
Consumer prices fell by about 30% from 1929 to 1933; and the last time I looked they were still rising.
Home prices dropped more than 30% during the Depression vs. about 16% today.
Some 40% of all mortgages were delinquent by 1934 compared with 4% today.
In the 1930s, more than 9,000 banks failed compared with fewer than 20 over the past couple of years.

AND gold was priced at $17.00 an ounce. There are pictures of lines of people on the South Platte here in Denver panning for gold or using sluice boxes to eke out some gold dust to buy a loaf of bread during the Great Depression, and accomplishing it. Colorado has weathered these things pretty well over the years, and I expect we will this time, too. Gold and Silver do well in times of crises, so I would suggest you find you some or buy a few bullion coins just in case. Heck, they’re nice just to collect!

Hey, has anybody been watching platinum lately? It closed today at $962.00 with news that the auto industry will require less platinum for car production. Build fewer cars with catalytic converters, and what cha think happens to the price of platinum? Copper is way down, too, what with fewer homes being built. Maybe those copper thieves will leave homes being built alone for a while. Oh, yah. There ARE none.

There was one other important thing I saw. Spending and money bills are required by the constitution of the United States to be introduced by the House of Representatives. So how come the spending bill that just passed today was started in the Senate? Has the Senate overstepped their authority? They also put in provisions to prevent the judiciary from prosecuting them or the Secretary of Finance. I’m pretty sure they only did that ‘cause they know it was illegal for the Senate to start this bill. Remember that both your Presidential candidates voted FOR this bill.

Is this good for gold? Most analysts say most probably. The dollar is up, though, and gold is back down. How long can that happen after 1 trillion additional dollars have been printed? Some are saying this is stop gap until the new administration is in office. I don’t know, but I still think I’ll buy a few more gold coins for Christmas.

GPOC’s regular meeting will be this next Wednesday night, and they will be electing their next year’s offices. I know that our present President will be leaving us and want to say what a most excellent job he has done for us the past three years. Eric Vesterby has to be one of the all time great presidents GPOC has ever had. I have been a member for about 18 years, and I have to say, things have run pretty smoothly under his wing. His cool head when things got tough to handle, and his all around command of things has served us well. We will miss your leadership, your good nature, your patience and above all your friendship to all who are members of this organization. Maybe now you can find the time to go prospecting with everyone who has asked you over the years, and you could not find time for, with all your commitments and duties for GPOC. Our next president has very big boots to fill.

And now, I will return you to your regular program and say farewell until next week. I won’t promise my soapbox will be put away, what with all the political stuff going on, but I will try to bring you some interesting news that does pertain to gold and prospecting, as well as your daily life. I’ll be working with the store pages this week, getting pictures up and links solidified. I could not believe I was putting up the November calendar today and seeing how close it is to Thanksgiving. That means Christmas is around the corner and you will be looking for gifts for that special prospector in your life. We still have a wonderful supply of prospector scenes to choose from, and if we run out here, we can have one delivered to you a couple of days later than I can get them to you from my house. Ok, I promised I would post the Aspen pictures today, and so I am doing that for you to see the beautiful scenes we saw this past weekend in the Cache Creek area. People were still running all over the piles and digging in the pits and finding gold. New gold panners came in for a lesson, and highbankers and sluice boxes were running full tilt. Water is still not an issue in the area and people are taking advantage of the wonderful weather while they can. We took a walk to check out some more areas and to possibly find another area to find gold. Several are looking good! While the V.P. candidates debate this evening, I'm sitting here putting up pictures and getting a word or two to you while I listen to what they have to say. I have a report on our metal detecting trip for next week, so stay tuned to see what we did and what we found, and a few pictures.

Crisp air is on its' way this next week, so be sure you have that jacket if you are out in the field. We will be on our way out our door on Saturday to find gold in the high country. After spending a couple of days sitting with my youngest grandson, and then back home to try to begin to get the house under control after a summer of being out and about, I will be ready to get out into the field this weekend to find some more gold. This winter may have a lot of cleaning and separating.......and I just MIGHT clean and separate stuff in the HOUSE, too. LOL! Newsletter tomorrow.

Highbanking Cache Creek for Gold

Finding gold at Cache Creek the first week in September. Warm, sunny days were with us as well as some mighty fine company.

I got to make a golden visit to sit with my youngest grandson Monday and Tuesday this week while his daycare sitter has shoulder surgery, so I’m a little late getting to the blog. I wanted to tell you more about our highbanking trip early in September, AND get some gorgeous fall pictures posted, with all the golds, oranges, and reds of the aspens. Oh, yeah, some gold prospecting pictures, too.

We actually did end up with 5 really wonderful days for highbanking. I’m gonna have to hold back a bit, though, as Rock and Gem magazine wants me to write a couple of articles for them on gold prospecting this next year, and this trip will be one of them. Can’t send them anything that was published anywhere else, either, so I’ll have to be careful with my wording and what pictures I use. I can tell you that our old level in the big hole got buried under a ton of rock and ‘banker tailings, so we were not able to work on the level that produced so much gold for us last year. However, someone dug under the little tree we had spent over a year trying to keep people out of and toppled it over. So, we decided to take the rest of the material out from under it. We spent the beginning of each day throwing off rock for an hour before we could even dig. If your aren’t doing that, too, your not securing your site from rocks falling in on you. DO NOT DIG UNDER THE ROCKS WITHOUT THROWNG THEM OFF!!! We REALLY do not want to dig you out or to hear that someone has been buried under them.

Anyway, after we secured the work area, we began digging out the dirt that was under the rocks down to the first clay layer and found decent color. A few bigger pieces came out, as you saw in the blog that was posted while we were away. However, the gold volume was a third (yes, you read me right ONE THIRD) what we took out last year on the level that is even with the creek. We even dug down to try to find it again and hit water. It’s still there, but it will probably be next year before we get it uncovered again. In the mean time, we want all of you to make sure you process all that stuff on top so we don’t have as much shoveling to do when we get back to it. And don’t be digging any further down in the gravels,’ cause WE WANTS IT ALL!!!!! LOL!

We also hear that the BLM will be removing a few more trees next year, but we guess it might be quite q few what with all the pines infested with those D****** beetles. The Dillon area looked grim when we went through there this last weekend with the trees already shedding their needles. One lightning strike will have the forests of Colorado consumed in a fire that will probably e impossible to stop. The wildlife will not be able to escape, either. And so now you know what Mother Nature really thinks, don’t you.

You’ll see some text links that go to external sites that have paid me a fee to link them. Most of them are relevant to the words, but a few have requested odd text links, so don’t be surprised if you get taken somewhere you didn’t want to go. I will try to make them as relevant as possible, but you know how it goes in the advertising biz, and, besides, it makes a couple of bucks for me to put toward the hosting fees for the site.

That’s about it for today. I should have another blog posting for you before Friday. The newsletter will probably have a bit of commentary, (I’ll keep it brief, don’t worry), about some of the information I found on the bailout, etc. this past week. Oh, and any of you who think you would get $425,000 if the government gave the AIG bailout to you, buy a new calculator, ’cause the one you used to check it out with isn’t working any better than the one the person who started this nonsense used. Oh, you say you didn’t check the numbers? And you though it was only politicians that lied. Silly you.
